Beyond The Rim: What's Happening? 8/16/16

Hey, BtR fans. We're thrilled you enjoyed our first episode of Beyond The Rim. Or at least that you liked it enough to come back here to find out more. In any event, we're nearing the end of August, which means voice tracks for Episode 2 are rolling in and edits are underway!

We're continuing to make changes and improvements to the show as well -- the most noticeable in the coming episode being PEG 5.1's voice processing. PEG, if you aren't familiar yet with Beyond The Rim, is our robotic show host, who introduces each episode and takes you, the audience right through the end each month. (By the way, if you have a question or comment for PEG, I want to invite you personally to email her at BeyondTheRimPodcast@gmail.com.)

Final touches are also being put on the script for Episode 3, which will conclude the current story, "Shoo, Fly." Episode 4 has already been written (by the wonderful Jeffrey Conolly), and will be a standalone supernatural thriller -- just in time for Halloween!

November will feature a more traditionally sci-fi episode, and we're planning something special for Christmas!

Thank you again for joining us for this adventure. We hope you enjoy the show!

Zombie Awareness Month: Some Personal Favorites For Your Listening Pleasure

As we mentioned earlier, May is Zombie Awareness Month. To celebrate, we're sharing some of our favorite audio dramas. From classic local radio to modern podcasts, these have inspired and entertained us, moaning and clawing their way into our hearts.

The Peoria Plague (1972) - In the tradition of the infamous Mercury Radio Theatre production of "War of the Worlds," this apocalyptic tale from WUHN in Peoria, IL presented a shocking tale of terror through a series of breaking news reports and in-studio performances.

Download it from archive.org

Dreaming of a Dead Christmas (2015) - A Christmas Episode of Campfire Radio Theater. Two coeds travel a back road on their way home... and quickly wish they hadn't.

Download it from Campfire Radio!

We're Alive and We're Alive: Lockdown (2009-current)- A small group of Army Reservists pull together survivors when, out of nowhere, the dead begin animated and eating flesh. This is a great, and very professionally done series. Get it direct from the We're Alive website.

And don't forget to keep an eye out for this month's MonsterCast, where we'll revisit yet another personal favorite, from the archives of old time radio.

April on Monstercast...

Now that the first episode of MonsterCast is out of the way, we turn our sights to a particular phobia of mine -- and perhaps one of yours, too. The featured tale in the upcoming episode comes from NBC Radio's horror anthology program, Lights Out.

People who know your humble host can easily guess the subject of April's MonsterCast, but the title is a dead giveaway. Coming in April:

MonsterCast, Reborn!

The first episode of the brand new MonsterCast is available for download and listening right now!

The new MonsterCast is a collection of classic horror radio dramas, hosted by Randy Streu and brought to you fresh -- well, fresh-ish -- every month.

This month on MonsterCast, we're kicking off anew with what has been considered by many the definitive horror radio play. "The Thing On the Fourble Board," originally an episode of Quiet Please, takes place on an oil derrick and dares to ask, what lies deep beneath the surface?

Enjoy!

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Re: Relaunch

A Flame in the Dark as it has been known will no longer exist. As one of the only Christian horror blogs on the web, it has been our privilege to serve the Christian speculative fan community with news, interviews, and reviews.

Just as AFitD has always been a labor of love and a personal passion, the reasons and reality of this next step in its existence are also personal. The short version is, I don't have the time to engage in the creative endeavors I enjoy, the obligations I have undertaken, AND the maintenance of a full-time news blog.

The website will continue to exist, but as a portal for new, creative outlets as we build and maintain a team committed to these endeavors.

In short, upon relaunch, A Flame in the Dark as an entity will be a combination, at long last, of my duel passions as a writer and as a broadcaster, dedicated to creating engaging works of audio fiction.

As such, MonsterCast, AFitD's very first podcast, will ALSO be retooled to fit this new vision.

I sincerely hope to engage in other blogging endeavors, but through outlets in which I am not solely responsible for content creation.

Thank you to all who have contributed to this blog.

Thank you for your support of A Flame in the Dark so far. It is my sincere hope that you join us in our new endeavor -- as a fan, or even as a contributor! (And on that note, be watching for announcements about how you can do exactly that!)

God bless you!
